People say traveling inspires them, boosts their creativity. In my case, traveling broadens the mind, it makes you think from a different perspective. When you are in a land of different culture, you are completely out of your comfort zone, your creativity takes a turn. And that is exactly what you need when creating art. As much as authenticity is important, inclusivity is also a key factor in art. Over ages, cultures evolve, people migrate, adapt and co-exist. That is how civilisation, art and literature flourished: expressing one’s mind.
This specific design of mine, is an amalgamation of photography and design. My mind usually wanders. When I sit in front of blank screen, I am pretty clueless how to express my thoughts, sometimes I want to write, sometimes design or just get out of the four walls and hunt with my camera.
I wanted to make the best out of my recent trip to Rameshwaram and Madurai. Usually people say trips with family, especially to holy places are boring, but it has a pro. You have one less thing to worry about: planning. I just went along with them having my own time and peace, to capture the memories.
As I was traveling back home, I realized how badly wanted this break. And it was a very enchanting experience, especially the serenity of Dhanushkodi. I wanted to put down my experience. And my recent love for Typography took over. And I have always been a sucker for details, I scribbled down the unique aspects of these cities. I have always loved vector art and minimalism – I have used Gopuram and trees to represent Madurai. Pamban bridge and waves to represent Rameshwaram. And wordplay mainly to convey the main aspects of these holy cities – Rameshwaram and Madurai. And I really cannot convey the beauty of the cities without using a photograph. Hence the graphical poster. And I still cannot call myself an artist nor this an art, just a noob juggling between photography, writing and designing.
