Come on, Let’s sketch!

I have always felt that sketching is a pure form of expression. A way of expressing using pens and pencils.

A sketch may serve a number of purposes: it might record something that the artist sees, it might record or develop an idea for later use or it might be used as a quick way of graphically demonstrating an image, idea or principle.

Sketches can be made in any drawing medium. Sketch is the most often used term for graphic work executed in a dry medium like graphite, pencil, charcoal or pastel. And also for drawings made in pen and ink, ballpoint pen, water color (water color sketches) and oil paint (oil sketches).

Sketching for beginner:

  1. First sketch loosely. If you are planning to sketch a face begin with a loose circle and add few lines, giving the shape of hair you want to give.
  2. Refine the shape. After the initial sketch, find areas that need improvement and sketch over it.
  3. Keep refining. keep repeating that step till you are satisfied or till your sketch got closer to what you want.

Psst, Try rotating your sketch book or paper so that you will get different angle. Who knows, maybe you’ll find another area that need a little refining and make your sketch better.

Hey you are still here… Go and grab a pen and start sketch your heart content..

By the way your sketches need not be complex. It could be a lamp or a rose, a table or a tree. Start with small object then scale to big ones like a human subject or a landscape.

The sketches can be made of watercolors too.

Here below are few sketches my sister made…
